Rain Not Responsible for Aborted Concerts
Korean court ruled that Rain is not responsible for the canceled U.S. concert tour in 2007. The Seoul District Court has passed down the ruling in favor of defendants Rain and his former agency, JYP Entertainment. Korean concert organizer Wellmade StarM had sued for damage compensation of 4.57 billion won for cancelled performances during Rain’s U.S. tour.

The ruling judge said that Rain’s U.S. concerts were cancelled over contract problems with and insufficient preparation of local concert promoters. Wellmade StarM had claimed that JYP Entertainment did not disclose the fact that the Korean superstar was sued by an American recording company over the use of his stage name “Rain.” The plaintiff argued that JYP Entertainment should have notified of the pending lawsuit and its possible implications, such as aborted concerts, since Wellmade StarM had paid 10 billion won in advance for performance fees and copyright commission.
