I have to admit, I do have the tendency to judge a book by its cover.
It's just easier and more convenient that way.
And more often than not, the way you've lived is reflected on your physique.
Not always though.

Here's a story that may sound far fetched.
But in more sense than one, is a very plausible one.

It's called the 200 pound beauty

BG SONG: BEAUTIFUL GIRL!

As the title suggests and in tune with some of the stuff I've briefly touched on.
It's about an overweight and under-estimated, under-appreciated girl.

In the case of Hana, the star of the show played by Kim Ah-joong.
She's huge, but she has a heart of gold.
and the vocal talent worthy of superstardom.

She provides the voice for another with the Looks.
She gets betrayed and humiliated,
She gets a second chance.
In movies, when you get a second chance,

It's as if life finally rewards you
for all the times when you thought "WHY ME"!

She loses weight,
has a new look,
and is treated like a Goddess for being beautiful.
She makes a debut as a singer.
Her career takes off instantly.

In the movie,
she is rushed to the stage,
without make-up, without fancy outfit.
Actually a torn outfit.

The audience is moved.
by nothing other than her singing.

Here's a song that marks the climax in the movie.
But before I let you her the version sang by 김아중.

Here's a little surprise

That song, titled Maria,
was originally sung by a male singer.

In the movie,
a fascinating part for me.
was when Hanna stuck up for
what used to be "HER OWN KIND."

Her boyfriend gets furious at a stalker.
He didn't mean any harm.
Only Hanna saw that truth,
and she understood where he is coming from.


BUT then,
people change.


Gradually
She lets the new her and her new surroundings
take over.
But will she realize her changes
may have come at the price of who she really is.

This was during a time when Korea wasn't bitten by
the audition reality program bug.
(Different from what packaging suggests,
real talent seen with greater clarity thanks to flaws, handicap)

Camryn Manheim who won an Emmy for playing a character that was on the chubby side, said "You can either destroy your spirit or accept and love yourself just the way you are.
And this movie emobodies that statement.
