Susie Suh

2006-06-23

Susie Suh is a Korean-American folk singer-songwriter who in May released her debut album on the Epic Records label. She recently held seven performances in South Korea in her third visit to her motherland.

She began singing at age eight when she joined a choir for the ethnic Korean channel KTE of Los Angeles. Five years later, she began playing the guitar and writing songs. While a senior at Brown University in Rhode Island (where she earned a bachelor's in English literature), she moonlighted in New York City as singer at clubs and bars and gained enough attention to land a record deal with a major label, a rare feat among Korean Americans.

The New York Times has praised Suh for her "rich, husky voice and a gift for melodies that rise with her emotions."
