2016-02-10

With a passion for all things romantic, you can understand why so many Koreans have a lot of desire to create that perfect date. Here are a few unique date ideas for all the lovers in Seoul.

Are the stars in alignment for you and your lover? Whether you believe or are just looking for something fun to do, the fortune tellers from the many tents and shops around Seoul are said to be able to determine your romance’s future on everything from your compatibility to when, or even if, a wedding date is in store. Your future can be assessed by using your birthday and birth times or something as simple as reading Tarot cards. These tents and establishments can be found in many popular neighborhoods such as Gangnam, Jongno, and more.

If you’ve watched Korean dramas, you may have noticed quite a few jjimjilbang date scenes as well. Containing rooms with different heated properties, jjimjilbangs are a great way to relax together. In between, you can grab snacks and drinks, read a book, watch tv, or more. For an additional fee, you can also opt for a massage or treatments such as facials. It’s a great way to relax and spend time together!
Are you and your other more an outdoors type? Seoul has a number of public and private bike rental shops around the city that are inexpensive and a great way to explore Seoul. One of the best places to do so is along the Han River. You and your date can each rent a bike to zoom in the heart of Seoul. Many even offer special couple bikes that will require you to work in tandem. Or you can bring a pair of skates or just take a stroll for a break. Stop at the many convenience stores along the way for some refueling!

More a foodie type? Why not learn how to cook a few favorite Korean dishes together? A variety of private and public organizations around the city offer Korean cooking lessons that can prove a memorable date. These include some of the Seoul Global Centers for foreigners around the city which you can check their respective homepages for schedules. There are also a handful of bakeries and cafes that also offers dessert making classes to ensure your memorable date ends on a sweet note.

Also, even if both you and your significant other aren’t big shoppers, doing a bit of specialty shopping can prove a memorable date. Going to Kyobo Bookstore for example, Korea’s largest bookstore, is perfect for a chilly day. While exploring the immense bookstore, you can pick out a book to give to the other person. Nearby in the Jongno 3-ga and Jongno 5-ga area, there are streets lined with jewelry stores that are popular for couples to get matching rings and other accessories done. In the evening, head over to Dongdaemun to do some late night shopping and get creative by coordinating a new stylish outfit for your lover!

Lastly, take the time to explore some of Seoul’s most scenic night spots around town. Namsan Park and Han River Park are two well-known areas to walk at night. Cheonggyecheon Stream is also a pleasant stroll right in the heart of the city. If you’re willing to put in a little effort the various Seoul City Wall trails, they offer some of the best views of the city to ensure a memorable and amorous night.
