US Congress to Seek Legislation on NK Threats

The 111th U.S. Congress will likely introduce legislation to enhance its fight against security threats presented by nations like North Korea and Iran.

About 20 U.S. heavyweight Democratic Party senators, including Hillary Clinton and John Kerry, have proposed legislation to “restore America’s power” by strengthening its military capabilities and actively dealing with threats of terrorists and weapons of mass destruction (WMDs).

The senators said the nation must effectively deal with threats by posed by North Korea and Iran, noting that the two countries seek nuclear proliferation and development of WMDs, which are both serious threats to U.S. security.

The new Congress, bolstered by expanded Democratic majorities in both chambers, was sworn in Tuesday in Washington.
