U.S. Special Representative for North Korea Stephen Bosworth will visit South Korea on Friday as part of a four-nation tour of Asia.
Bosworth, who is flying in from Beijing on Friday, is scheduled to meet with Foreign Minister Yu Myung-hwan and South Korea’s chief delegate to the six-way nuclear talks, Wi Sung-lak.
Bosworth and the South Korean officials are likely to focus on seeking ways to resume nuclear negotiations, which have been stalled due to North Korea’s boycott of the talks.
An official at the Foreign Ministry in Seoul said that during Bosworth’s visit, Seoul and Washington will assess the current situation surrounding the Korean Peninsula and share views on ways to address pending issues.
Later on Monday, Bosworth will head to Japan before making his way to Russia on Tuesday.
Earlier this week, the U.S. State Department said Bosworth has no plans to visit North Korea and is set to return to Washington next Thursday.
