ECDC: 5,132 Confirmed New Flu Patients

The European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) says 5,132 confirmed cases of the H1N1 influenza have been reported in the world.

It said the tally of new flu patients exceeded the five-thousand mark just a week after the announcement of one-thousand confirmed cases.

The ECDC noted that the United States reported over 25-hundred cases and Mexico over two-thousand. North America accounted for over 95 percent of the global flu tally.

In Europe, 196 confirmed cases were reported including 95 in Spain. Moreover, cases of mass infection have been on the rise as the flu is spreading among schools in Britain and other European countries.

Meanwhile, China reported its first confirmed case of the new flu. Chinese health authorities said the confirmed patient was a 30-year-old man who traveled back from the United States on Saturday.
