Bosworth to Review Possibility of Visiting NK

U.S. Special Representative for North Korea Stephen Bosworth says he will review the possibility of visiting North Korea in the next few weeks.

The former U.S. ambassador to Seoul made the remarks in Tokyo before departing for Washington on Tuesday. Bosworth was in Tokyo as part of his weeklong trip to Northeast Asia that focused on finding ways to get the North to return to the six-way nuclear talks.

Bosworth said that once he gets back to Washington, he will have related consultations on an interagency basis and will continue to be in touch with partners in Asia concerning the situation in North Korea.

Bosworth said he very much hopes that the North does not follow through with its plans to conduct another nuclear test, adding that such move would be a step in the wrong direction.

He stressed that the members of the six-way nuclear talks, with the exception of the North, believe that dialogue and negotiations are the best means to resolve Pyongyang’s nuclear standoff.
