A Japanese daily says tensions are running high on the China-North Korea border in the wake of the North’s April fifth rocket launch.

According to the Mainichi Shimbun on Thursday, a chilly atmosphere is being detected between China and North Korea.

The report said the fact that the North pushed forward with the rocket launch despite China’s calls to desist is likely to be the cause of the tensions.

The paper quoted citizens of the Chinese border city of Dandong as saying that cross-border trade figures have been down since the launch.

China and North Korea are celebrating the 60th anniversary of their establishment of diplomatic ties this year.
