'US Provided NK with $1.3Bln in Aid'

A new report out of Washington finds the United States provided North Korea with around one-point-three billion dollars in aid from 1995 until early this year.

According to the report issued by the U.S. Congressional Research Service, the United States provided a wide range of everyday necessities to the North --- including food, energy and medicine --- since the adoption of the Geneva Agreed Framework in 1994.

Humanitarian aid accounted for the largest portion of the provisions, amounting to over 700 million dollars.

In line with agreements reached in the six-way nuclear talks, the U.S. had provided the North with 146 million dollars worth of heavy oil and an additional 20 million dollars in other forms of aid.

Some 400 million dollars was provided for the construction of light water reactors and around nine million dollars for daily necessities.
