US, Russia Seek Diplomatic Solution to NK

The United States and Russia have agreed on the need to swiftly resume the six-way nuclear talks while not pressuring North Korea.

U.S. special envoy for the six-party discussions, Sung Kim, visited Moscow on Wednesday and spoke about ways to reopen the stalled nuclear negotiations with his Russian counterpart, Grigory Logvinov.

According to an official who was present at the talks, both Kim and Logvinov agreed not to pressure North Korea, but to instead seek to find a diplomatic solution to the deadlock in the nuclear talks.

In particular, Kim reportedly stressed the need for the members of the six-way nuclear talks to form a consensus opinion to create an atmosphere which would induce the North to return to the nuclear discussions. Kim also said the U.S. is willing to hold bilateral talks with the North within the six-way dialogue framework.
