Korean Ship Deters Pirate Attack Near Somalia

A South Korean destroyer rescued an Egyptian merchant ship from pirates in Somali waters on Wednesday.

A military official said Thursday that the 45-hundred-ton “King Munmu the Great” destroyer of South Korea’s Cheonghae Unit successfully deterred a pirate attack on the Egyptian vessel at 10 p.m., Korean time.

This is the fourth time the King Munmu has engaged in anti-piracy activities since it began its mission on April 16th.
