Bosworth May Visit NK After Detainee Release

U.S. Special Representative for North Korea Stephen Bosworth may seek to visit North Korea after the issue of two detained U.S. journalists in the North is resolved.

A senior government official in Seoul told reporters Sunday that Bosworth is making plans to visit the communist state.

He added that the former ambassador is expected to make a final decision on the matter depending on developments regarding two U.S. journalists detained by the North.

According to a diplomatic source, a visit by Bosworth most likely wouldn’t come until the detainment issue is settled. He said that if the envoy makes the visit before the issue is resolved, Pyongyang might attempt to use the journalists as a bargaining chip.

The two reporters, Euna Lee and Laura Ling of San Francisco-based Current TV, were detained by North Korea on March 17th near the Chinese-North Korean border while filming a documentary on North Korean escapees.
