S.Korea, China Top Envoys Discuss NK Nuke Issue

South Korea’s chief delegate to the six-party nuclear talks and his Chinese counterpart held a meeting Wednesday in Beijing to discuss the North Korean nuclear issue.

In the two-hour meeting, Wi Sung-lak and Wu Dawei discussed coordinated bilateral responses to the North’s detonation of a nuclear device on May 25th.

Sources in Beijing speculate the top nuke envoys assessed the situation in the North and exchanged views on adopting a new United Nations Security Council resolution to punish Pyongyang.

The two sides agreed on the importance of a joint international response to the North’s recent provocation.

China is also said to have confirmed its support for U.N. action.
