A Japanese daily says North Korea appears to be preparing to simultaneously launch long-range ballistic missiles from two different sites.
The Sankei Shimbun said Wednesday that movements of materials and equipment related to long-range ballistic missiles have been detected in Musudan-ri, North Hamgyeong Province, where Pyongyang test-fired its long-range Daepodong-Two missile in April.
The paper said Pyongyang could be seeking to launch missiles simultaneously from two different sites, citing similar preparations at a new launch site in Dongchang-ri, North Pyongan Province.
The report said the missiles at both sites appear to be Daepodong-Two missiles or an improved version of the Daepodong.
Sankei also expressed concern about Pyongyang’s preparations to launch a mid-range missile as well, as related preparations have been spotted at a site in the southeastern part of North Korea.
The report said the Japanese government has stepped up the readiness of its Self-Defense Forces and remains prepared to intercept missiles, should the need arise.
