'NK Ship to Dock in Myanmar Soon'

An online magazine says a North Korean-flagged ship under close watch in Asian waters is expected to dock at a Myanmar port in the next few days.

The Irrawaddy, an online magazine operated by exiled journalists from Myanmar, quoted an unidentified port official as saying Tuesday that the Kang Nam-One would dock at the Thilawa port, some 30 kilometers south of Yangon in the next few days. The official also cited that North Korean ships have docked there in the past.

According to the report, Myanmar and North Korea have a history of illicit weapons transfers, including the import of North Korean tunneling techniques for covert military installations.

The Kang Nam-One, which is currently being tailed by the U.S. military, was suspected of carrying illicit weapons when it docked at Thilawa port in 2004 and 2007.
