The United States announced Tuesday that a prototype Airborne Laser Aircraft has successfully completed its first two tracking tests of missile targets over the Pacific Ocean.

The Pentagon’s Missile Defense Agency said the tests were carried out on June sixth and 13th.

The agency said the aircraft intercepted two ground-launched Terrier-Lynx missiles launched from San Nicolas Island off the central California coast.

The airborne laser weapons system is a cutting-edge technology that uses aircraft-based lasers to destroy enemy ballistic missiles.
