China has hinted at opposing a meeting among five of the six-party members that excludes North Korea.

At a news briefing Tuesday, a Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman said that Beijing believes denuclearization on the Korean Peninsula should be realized through the six-party nuclear talks.

The comment is interpreted as China opposing the five-nation talks.

The United States and Russia expressed support for a five-nation formula proposed by South Korea.
