NK Likely to Launch Short-range Missile First

U.S. intelligence officials say North Korea is likely to launch short- to medium-range missiles ahead of launching a long-range missile.

U.S. defense and counter-proliferation officials, who requested anonymity, said Wednesday that impending military drills planned by North Korea are expected to include the launch of short- and medium-range missiles instead of long-range missiles.

The officials added that no signs have been detected suggesting that Pyongyang is preparing to launch its long-range Daepodong-Two missile.

Earlier on Monday, the North’s hydrographic department e-mailed Japan's coast guard and unveiled plans to hold military drills in waters northeast of Wonsan, on North Korea’s eastern coast, for 16 days starting this Thursday.
