US Lawmakers Submit Missile Defense Bill

A group of U.S. lawmakers presented to Congress a bill on defending the U.S. from North Korean and Iranian ballistic missiles.

Six Congressmen led by Rep. Trent Franks (R-AZ), submitted the bill, titled H.R. 2845, to the House of Representatives on June 12th.

The bill calls on Washington to deploy more than 40 ground-based missile interceptors to Alaska and additional dispatches to California. It also stipulates that interceptors should be deployed in additional locations the president deems necessary.

The proposed legislation says the 2010 fiscal budget should include five-hundred million dollars for the interceptor expenditure.

The bill is currently pending in the House Armed Services Committee and the House Committee on Foreign Affairs.
