S.Koreans in Uighur Region Safe

The South Korean Consulate General in Beijing says there are no reports of South Korean casualties in the wake of deadly riots in China’s Xinjiang Uighur Autonomous Region.

Over 150 South Korean tourists are said to be staying in the western Chinese region.

A consulate official who was dispatched to the region said the Korean tourists are traveling in areas far from the riots and were advised to stay with local tour guides at all times.

Meanwhile, Korean Air's Urumqi office said 120 passengers have booked seats on Friday’s 2:30 p.m. flight to Seoul, but it is not known whether they are Korean nationals residing in Xinjiang or tourists.
