A U.S. daily says much information has been gained from the recent chain of North Korean missile launches.
In an article titled "How the U.S. exploited North Korea missile tests," the Honolulu Advertiser's Internet edition said Washington was pleased that U.S. missile defense in place in Japan, Alaska, California, Hawaii, aboard Navy ships and in satellites was tested to the limit and functioned properly.
The paper said the North’s test afforded U.S. intelligence the opportunity to gather information about Pyongyang’s missiles that otherwise could not have been obtained. One official was cited as saying that the U.S. learned an incredible amount about where exactly North Korea is in terms of long-range missile development.
The article said the U.S. believes that although the North has become more skilled at disguising launch sites, the U.S. was able to pick up North Korean missiles in only two to eleven seconds after launching.
The article said the fusion of data from sensors based on land, at sea and in space produced swift and clear images of the missiles.
