The U.N. Security Council is expected to finalize Tuesday its list of North Korean officials and companies who are suspected of having taken part in the North's latest nuclear test.
All entities on the list will face sanctions as stated by a U.N. resolution adopted to condemn the North for its May detonation of an underground nuclear device.
A U.N. official told Yonhap News that the Security Council is in its final stage of selecting sanction targets, with the final selections being made by Tuesday or Wednesday at the latest.
All entities on the list will face a travel ban and an asset freeze.
China, one of the five permanent members on the council and a long-time ally of the North, had been reluctant to agree to the sanctions stipulated by the new resolution.
Beijing has since reversed its stance and is now supporting sanctions on 15 North Korean officials as proposed by the U.S. and Japan.
U.N. resolution 1874 requires the council's sanctions committee to draw up a list of sanction targets within 30 days from its adoption. The resolution was passed on June 12th.
