South Korean companies will be able to take part in government procurement projects in Taiwan starting Wednesday.

The Taiwanese government was found to have recently concluded negotiations with the World Trade Organization (WTO) to enter the trade body’s Government Procurement Agreement (GPA). Taiwan reportedly submitted its admission document to the WTO on June 15th.

Given that a nation becomes a GPA signatory nation a month after submitting its admission document, Taiwan’s public buyers’ market will be opened to other signatory nations starting Wednesday.

The move would enable South Korean firms that meet certain requirements to participate in bids for construction projects and take part in certain projects launched by the Taiwanese government.

Under the agreement, the signatory nations guarantee they will provide suppliers from other signatory countries with treatment equal to that which they provide their own suppliers.
