US Discusses Format of NK Talks with 6-Party Partners

The U.S. government is reportedly meeting with members of the six-way nuclear talks to discuss the format of a possible U.S.-North Korea bilateral meeting.

A senior official at the State Department said Thursday that Washington is discussing with concerned parties how best to arrange the U.S.-North Korea meeting so that it helps facilitate the resumption of the six-nation talks.

State Department spokesman Ian Kelly told reporters Wednesday that consultations on a possible meeting are still under way within the U.S. government and with related countries.

Kelly said China has briefed Washington on the results of Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao’s recent trip to North Korea.

Next week, Assistant Secretary of State Kurt Campbell will visit Japan and China to continue discussions on a possible U.S.-North Korea meeting.
