China Confident about Future of 6-Way Talks

China's Vice Foreign Minister Wu Dawei says --- after Chinese Prime Minister Wen Jiabao's recent meeting with North Korean leader Kim Jong-il --- he is confident the six-party nuclear talks will resume.

Wu told Xinhua news agency on Thursday that China is confident about the future of the nuclear talks.

Wu's comment is seen as an assurance about the future of the six-party framework for countries that are lukewarm about the North's decision to return to the talks on condition.

The Chinese official also said that Beijing vows its full support for a resumption of the six-party talks, noting that bilateral talks between Washington and Pyongyang within the six-party framework are an important part of the denuclearization dialogue.
