China to Support NK Wind Power Development

China says it is planning to provide North Korea with assistance in developing wind power.

A fraction of some 34 billion won in aid Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao promised to North Korea during bilateral meetings in Pyongyang this week will be used to develop wind power.

North Korea has been struggling from energy shortages due to outdated facilities and problems in acquiring crude oil.

The North is regarded as having favorable conditions for the development of wind power, with winds blowing at speeds of three to four meters per second in coastal regions.
