The Japanese public broadcaster NHK reports President Lee Myung-bak and Japan’s Prime Minister Yukio Hatoyama have bolstered trust between the two countries through the recent bilateral summit.

The report said the two leaders shared common understanding on bilateral issues, such as expanding economic cooperation in private sectors and resolving the North Korean nuclear issue.

NHK added that the two leaders agreed the Japanese abduction issue should be resolved as part of Lee’s proposed “grand bargain” deal, which will tie North Korea’s denuclearization with economic aid and security guarantees.

On Hatoyama’s proposal to launch an Asian community, they shared the view the idea would contribute not only to regional development but also to the global economy and world peace.
