NK Official Arrives in San Diego for NE Asia Conference

North Korean Foreign Ministry director Ri Gun and U.S. nuclear envoy Sung Kim, who met one-on-one in New York over the weekend, both arrived in San Diego early Monday morning Korea time.

Ri Gun arrived at a San Diego airport together with Kim Myong-gil, deputy head of the North Korean mission to the U.N. in New York. Ri then headed directly to La Jolla Hotel to attend a welcoming event before the opening of the Northeast Asia Cooperative Dialogue.

Sung Kim, who is also known to have arrived in San Diego, is expected to meet again with the North Korean officials.

A high-level diplomatic source says Ri and Kim could meet unofficially in between conference events or on the sidelines of the Northeast Asia dialogue.

Officials and scholars from the member nations to the six-way nuclear talks will be attending the conference.
