The United States’ nominee for human rights envoy in North Korea says he will seek for China’s better treatment of North Korean escapees.

Robert King said during his Senate confirmation hearing Thursday that he will press China not to forcibly expel or deport North Korean escapees back to the North.

King said he would instead ask that China accept the escapees and allow them access to the U.N. High Commissioner for Refugees.
