MOFAT to Request NATO Cooperation

Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Lee Yong-Joon left Korea Thursday to attend an International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) session to be held at the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) headquarters in Brussels, Belgium.

Lee plans to meet with the NATO leadership, which has control over ISAF and other military support to Afghanistan, to explain in person Korea’s plans for its Provincial Reconstruction Team (PRT) and request their cooperation.

The Korean government needs NATO's green light in order to build a PRT base in Parwan, Afghanistan and dispatch troops there as planned.

Lee also plans to sign a memorandum of understanding between Korea and NATO on information security.
