The government has signed a memorandum of understanding on information security with NATO.

Deputy Foreign Minister Lee Yong-joon made the announcement yesterday in Brussels, Belgium, at a NATO meeting of foreign ministers along with their counterparts from other countries who sent troops for international security assistance forces.

The agreement will give Korea access to information NATO provides to member nations, especially data on the activities and situation of peacekeeping forces in Afghanistan.

The accord is a procedure for NATO to authorize Korea's troop dispatch to Afghanistan, and is considered an international completion of preparation to that end.
