Russia says it believes that foreign ministers from the Group of Eight nations will come to a consensus on ways to convince North Korea to return to the six-way nuclear talks when they meet in Canada next week.

Russian Foreign Ministry spokesman Andrei Nesterenko said Friday that Russia is confident the G8 meeting will conclude that political and diplomatic means are the best way to persuade the North to return to the six-nation talks.

Last Friday, Nesterenko said Moscow is opposed to imposing indefinite sanctions on the North.

The G8 foreign ministers will meet in Canada on Monday to discuss key global issues, including the nuclear programs in North Korea and Iran.
