The U.S. State Department says that although it is premature to question the stability of the regime in North Korea, the communist state appears to be experiencing stress.

State Department spokesman Philip Crowley told reporters during a news briefing in Washington that the stress is of North Korea’s own making.

He said the North’s most recent economic policies have had a dire effect on its economy and complicated the lives of the average North Korean citizen.
