Japan Repeats Territorial Claim to Dokdo

Japan continues to lay territorial claim to South Korea’s easternmost Dokdo islets.

According to the Foreign Ministry in Seoul, the Japanese government approved in a Cabinet meeting Tuesday morning its Diplomatic Blue Book 2010 that says Dokdo is Japan’s territory.

According to the book, the Japanese government is justified in its claim that Dokdo historically and geographically belongs to the Japanese.

The South Korean Foreign Ministry expressed strong regret over Japan’s latest sovereignty claims over Dokdo.

Japan’s Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology approved late last month five elementary social studies textbooks in which Dokdo is described as Japanese territory. The textbooks will be used starting next year.
