22 Nations Collaborate in Seeking the Return of Stolen Relics

Twenty-two countries, including South Korea, have agreed on cooperatioin in seeking the return of stolen cultural relics and produced a list of such items.

The countries also produced a list of stolen relics after a meeting held in Egypt on Thursday.

South Korea wants back Choseon Dynasty royal documents looted by the French navy in the late 19th century from the "Oegyujanggak” archive and Joseon-wangsil-uiqwe, a collection of documents on Joseon Dynasty court ceremonies currently held by the Japanese Imperial Household Agency.

The countries, including China, India and Egypt, have agreed to launch joint campaigns to retrieve the stolen antiquities and cultural heritage and to promote international awareness on the matter.

Countries under pressure to return stolen relics, such as Japan and Britain, failed to attend the conference.
