White House spokesman Robert Gibbs says the U.S. is taking strong sanctions to prevent the proliferation of nuclear weapons by North Korea.

Gibbs said the Obama administration is operating a powerful sanctions system to block North Korea's transfer of nuclear weapons and materials.

U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton says North Korea has anywhere between one and six nuclear weapons.
