Australia has appointed an ethnic Korean as its ambassador to Denmark.

The Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade said that James Choi assumed his new post in Copenhagen on April sixth, five days after receiving the appointment.

Born in South Korea in 1970, Choi emigrated to Australia when he was four years old.

Previously, Choi served in the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade and in the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet.

Choi has also served overseas at Australia's United Nations Permanent Mission in New York and the Australian Embassy in Seoul.
