Documentary on NK Rights Screened at European Parliament

A documentary on North Korea's human rights situation was screened at the European Parliament in Brussels, Belgium, Wednesday evening local time.

Some 200 parliamentary officials, human rights group members and citizens watched the documentary "Kimjongilia."

Kimjongilia refers to the begonia flower, which is revered in the North as the "Kim Jong-il flower."

The documentary comprises interviews with 13 North Korean defectors who discuss the labor camps, starvation and overall social conditions in the North.

The film’s director, Nancy Heikin of the U.S., introduced the film before the screening, calling the defectors “heroes” for offering testimonies with their safety at risk.

Kimjongilia was screened at the Sundance Film Festival in January of last year.
