S.Korea Pledges $10 Mln in Additional Aid to Haiti

Foreign Minister Yu Myung-hwan visited the Haitian capital of Port-au-Prince on Wednesday, local time, to offer consolation to the people of the Caribbean nation that was hit by a catastrophic earthquake in January.

Yu, currently on a two-day visit of the nation, conveyed South Korea’s plans to donate relief aid worth some ten million dollars for the mid- to long-term reconstruction of Haiti. The amount is in addition to the two-point-five million dollars in short-term emergency aid South Korea has already provided.

When combined with the 35 million dollars in aid donated by the South Korean private sector, South Korea will have provided short-to long-term public and private aid worth some 47-point-five million dollars.
