A Japanese daily says the second Nuclear Security Summit in South Korea in 2012 will help to induce North Korea's denuclearization.

The Asahi Shimbun daily says South Korea’s designation as the host of the summit reflects the U.S. intent to focus global attention on the North Korean nuclear issue and will also help Seoul in its efforts to induce the North's denuclearization process.

The paper cited President Lee Myung-bak's pledge to invite Pyongyang to the security summit if it expresses willingness to abandon its nuclear ambitions through the six-party talks and also rejoins the Nuclear Nonproliferation Treaty (NPT).

Asahi said U.S. President Barack Obama proposed South Korea's hosting of the second summit during an April first phone conversation with President Lee in which the two discussed the sinking of the "Cheonan."
