Japan is reportedly seeking to introduce a college credit transfer system in order to expand student exchanges between Japanese universities and South Korean and Chinese universities.
The Asahi Shimbun daily says Japan held a college exchange committee meeting on Friday and decided to make more active efforts to facilitate the flow of South Korean and Chinese college students into Japan as part of efforts to enhance regional exchanges.
The meeting was attended by representatives of South Korean and Chinese universities, business leaders and government officials in charge of educational administration.
Currently, about 20-thousand South Koreans are studying in Japan, while only three-thousand Japanese students are studying in South Korea.
The three nations held last month a meeting in Bangkok to discuss grade assessment methods and standards for college credit transfers.
