US Supports Possible Referral of Cheonan Case to UNSC

The United States has expressed support for South Korea’s stated plan to bring the sinking of the “Cheonan” naval vessel to the U.N. Security Council if North Korea is confirmed to have been involved in the incident.

U.S. State Department spokesman Philip Crowley said Monday that such a move is the right of every country. Crowley also said that Washington is continuing to cooperate with Seoul in the ongoing investigation into the naval disaster.

Crowley’s comment follows South Korean Foreign Minister Yu Myung-hwan's remark Sunday that he will bring the sinking of the “Cheonan” to the U.N. Security Council if North Korea is found to be involved.
