FIFA VP Proposes S.Korea Host 2022 World Cup

FIFA Vice President Chung Mong-joon says that having the 2022 World Cup in South Korea would contribute to peace in Northeast Asia.

Chung made the remark on Thursday during the “Leaders in Football” event in London, saying that FIFA should contribute to world peace through the use of soccer.

Chung noted that the world came together during the Seoul 1988 Olympics after both the 1980 Olympics in Moscow and the 1984 Olympics in Los Angeles were boycotted by some countries. Chung emphasized the powerful influence sports can wield.

The FIFA Executive Committee will decide which countries will host the World Cup in 2018 and 2022 when it convenes in Zurich on December second.
