A Korean fishing boat has been hijacked by Somali pirates in Kenyan waters.

The Foreign Affairs and Trade Ministry said Sunday that the 241-ton trawler Geummi 305, with two Koreans, two Chinese and 39 Kenyans aboard, was hijacked October 9th by the pirates while fishing for crab in waters near the Kenyan island of Lamu in the Indian Ocean.

The boat was reportedly taken to Harardhere, a base for pirates north of the Somali capital of Mogadishu.

The ministry has set up a task force for the swift and safe return of the kidnapped fishermen, while operating a team at the Korean Embassy in Kenya to find out more on the hijacking.
