Representatives from the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) will visit South Korea to assess the domestic breed of dogs known as “Jindo” for use on the department’s police force.

The LAPD and the Jindo Dog Promotion and Innovation Agency unveiled the plan during a news conference on Thursday in LA.

A delegation from the LAPD, including canine trainers, will visit Jindo County in South Jeolla Province on Sunday to screen some 30 Jindo dogs less than a year old and will decide which dogs are suitable for use by its department.

The delegation will also visit a training camp for police dogs in Yongin, Gyeonggi Province, to learn more about the Jindo breed, which has been designated the nation’s 53rd “National Treasure.”
