Foreign Media Positively Assess Gyeongju Pact

Foreign media have positively assessed the G-20's pledge to refrain from waging a currency war in the meeting of G-20 finance ministers and central bank governors in Gyeongju, North Gyeongsang Province.

The Associated Press said Sunday that the Gyeongju meeting did not present specific targets but took a step forward since the previous G-20 ministerial meeting in Washington failed to narrow differences.

AFP says the G-20's pledge to refrain from competitive undervaluation of their currencies means the U.S. has won the support of G-20 nations.

Reuters says G-20 finance ministers agreed to transfer more than six percent of voting rights shares of the International Monetary Fund from advanced economies to developing economies, reflecting a shift in global power.

China's official Xinhua News welcomed the IMF shake-up as significant reform.
