The Fourth Asian Ministerial Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction (AMCDRR) will open in Songdo, Incheon, for a three-day run on Tuesday.

Some 800 people will take part in the gathering, including ministers from 52 Asian and European nations as well as top officials from U.N. agencies and nongovernmental organizations.

Participants will meet to discuss a natural disaster prevention project that Asia-Pacific nations plan to implement in the next five years.

The National Emergency Management Agency in Seoul said it will introduce at the gathering its latest disaster prevention technologies, including a system that forecasts the extent of typhoon damage in accordance with a typhoon’s course. Other technologies that will be introduced include a system that automatically assesses the damage caused by climate change and another that counters calamities caused by earthquakes.
