South Korea has been reelected to the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC).

The U.N. General Assembly reelected South Korea, China, Pakistan and Qatar to its main advisory body for economic and social affairs on Monday in New York.

The U.N. Economic and Social Council was established under the United Nations Charter as the principal organ to coordinate economic, social, and related work of the 14 U.N. specialized agencies, functional commissions and five regional commissions. It is comprised of 54 member states, each of which serves a three-year term.

South Korea has served on the council since 2001. Its new term will begin in January 2011.
