JCS: Unit in Haiti Not Affected by Cholera Outbreak

The Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS) is reporting that South Korean troops in northern Haiti have not been affected by a cholera outbreak that has left more than 250 locals dead.

South Korea’s Danbi Unit is there as part of a humanitarian mission to help rebuild the quake-devastated nation.

The JCS says that the area where the outbreak occurred is 140 kilometers north of Leogane, where the unit is stationed, and that no members of the Danbi Unit have visited the region.

The JCS says that it is highly unlikely that any of the soldiers will be infected with cholera.

A JCS official says the unit is restricting troop contact with locals and it has temporarily stopped visiting outside areas to provide medical treatment.
